Dungeness Crab

 

Cooking the Dungeness Crabs is so easy and just like the other crabs, and if you don't want to cook it, you can even buy it pre-cooked. This shellfish as a unique flavour in contrast to the other crabs and can be distinguished by the orange / yellow shell pigment. You will mainly buy this crab pre-cooked as many fishing boats will cook them immediately after catching to preserve the freshness.

If you do happen to buy them live or catch them yourself, steam the crab for approximately 16 minutes, or if you prefer to boil, do this for 9-11 minutes.

If your crab was frozen, simply thaw overnight in the fridge. Once your crab has thawed, lift off the shell and rinse with water to move the gills & viscera. Crack the body in half using a mallet and spread the legs apart. Remove the crab meat with a small fork or even the crab leg if you wish. Be sure mot to eat any of the crab organs as they are sometimes toxic and may harm your body. Other than that, enjoy the finest shellfish available. 

Live Dungeness Crab live within bays, estuaries, and the near-shore coast of Alaska, and is related to shrimp, lobster, and other crabs. Crabbing is the method of fishing used to catch this species. This involves using fish for bait and steel traps or pots.

The Dungeness crab is also very healthy for any ones diet as it is an excellent source of high-quality protein, containing many amino acids, while low in fat and calories. A 6-ounce edible portion of cooked crab has only 190 calories and 2 grams of fat. You can also get many of the necessary minerals that are recommended with the typical daily diet.
